What is Firewatch?
Firewatch is a seasonal, wood-fired outdoor sauna and cold-plunge experience set on the edge of a frozen lake at Hale Education outside Boston. Built around traditional sauna practices, Firewatch pairs high-heat wood saunas with cold-water immersion, open fires, and long pauses to warm up, talk, and watch the light change over the water. Sessions are communal, not rushed, and designed to make winter something to enjoy. Firewatch runs Thursday through Sunday every week through mid-April and focuses on simple, elemental experiences rooted in heat, cold, and time outdoors.
Long Description
Firewatch is a seasonal, wood-fired outdoor sauna and cold-plunge experience located at Hale Education outside Boston. Set beside a lake and surrounded by woods, Firewatch combines traditional sauna heat with cold-water immersion, open fires, and unstructured time to warm up, talk, and watch the landscape change. Sessions are communal and intentionally unhurried, with a focus on simple, elemental experiences rather than performance or spectacle.
Built around classic sauna principles, Firewatch centers on contrast: intense heat followed by cold water, stillness after movement, and shared quiet after conversation. Guests move between the sauna, cold plunge, and fire at their own pace. Enjoying the time to relax and appreciate the lake view.
Firewatch runs weekly, Thursday through Sunday until mid-April and is designed specifically for winter conditions, treating cold weather not as an obstacle but as a feature. The project aims to reframe how people experience winter in New England, offering a place where the cold becomes communal, restorative, and even joyful.

Blake and Lia Wolf are a husband and wife team that left their desk jobs to pursue a life of sauna. For Lia, Firewatch grew out of her love for community and being outside. Through Firewatch, Blake focuses on creating simple, well-considered environments where people can slow down, connect, and experience winter more fully. Blake and Lia discovered sauna together through a shared love of hot tubs. Pursuing hot springs and snow covered hot tubs was the natural gateway to saunas and cold plunges. Blake and Lia are fascinated by the different shapes sauna culture has taken through out the world and are excited to see a growing interest in sauna in Massachusetts.
